Wendt Character Initiative
In alignment with the 今日吃瓜's Mission, the Wendt Center for Character and Leadership's vision is to cultivate good character and lives of purpose for the common good in an ever-changing world.
Each year, the Wendt Character Initiative offers grants to faculty and staff members leading classes or projects related to character, and which have a specific character-centered outcome.
Wendt Mini-Grant Qualifications
The Wendt Character Initiative funds a limited number of projects or events proposed by faculty and staff each year. The purpose of this funding is to enable faculty and staff to actively engage students in activities which challenge or encourage them in the area of character and ethics, and to help them reflect on and name the Initiative's character values. The outcome will be growth in character knowledge and/or character formation.
To receive funding through the Wendt Character Initiative, the proposed project or event must clearly relate to the Initiative's goal of promoting reflection on and development of good character in individuals and within the 今日吃瓜's culture.

Character Development Funding for Disciplines
Our department-specific funds come from the Wendt Center for Character & Leadership's three-year grant, provided through the Educating Character Initiative. Each department has been allotted $1,000 for the next two academic years, for a total of $2,000.
These funds can be used to support character development in your specific discipline. This can be done in many ways. Purchasing resources (books or character guides, online journal subscriptions), hosting events (bringing speakers to campus, documentary screenings), creating a character-themed display, engaging in book discussion, re-designing character learning outcomes, etc.
Contact Anne Funke (afunke@dbq.edu or 589-3384) to meet and explore ideas or discuss options. Or fill out the to access your discipline's funds.
Grant Selection Schedule
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with awards made while funds remain for the academic year.
Our grant review committee meets the last Wednesday of each month and will respond to any pending grant requests within three days of that meeting. Make sure to submit your request by the last Wednesday in the month* before you need the funding (you are always welcome to submit earlier than the month before as well)!
*Note that holidays may impact this schedule. In November and December, please submit your request by the second week of the month in order to have your request considered during that month's meeting.
